Fisherboy Store and Motel

Sayward is located on north Vancouver Island's beautiful east coast, approximately 75 kilometers north of Campbell River.

Sayward has two fire halls and trucks, a fully equipped rescue vehicle, and one ambulance. Vancouver Island is served by 911 services for police, fire and ambulance.

Sayward has three churches and two gasoline stations, as well as several grocery stores and liquor outlets. Our own store carries a wide range of goods including food products, camping supplies, souvenirs and alcohol. Fishing licenses, tackle and guide services are also available. Drug stores and medical services, including a hospital, are available in Campbell River, a one-hour drive away.

There is much to see and do in and around the Sayward area! Here are some of our favourites:

Things to Do, Places to Go

  • Art in the Park
This annual event hosted by Fisherboy Park showcases the work of local and regional artisans in a festive atmosphere that includes musical entertainment which varies from year to year. Pack your own picnic, or purchase food from the charity-operated booth, and you'll be all set to enjoy a garden luncheon while you're here.
  • Chainsaw Carving Collection at Fisherboy Park
Walk through the park and enjoy the largest private collection of chainsaw carvings on Vancouver Island. For a real treat, plan ahead to visit Art in the Park, - always the first Sunday in July.
  • Fisherboy Park Trail
Enjoy a leisurely walk to the Salmon River. Go to the end of the Park to Skogan Road. Turn left and look for the Fisherboy Park Trail sign. Takes about 20 minutes each way.
  • The Estuary
Stroll on 140 hectares of natural wonderland at the mouth of the Salmon River. At the sign to the Village of Sayward, turn right. Cross the logging road and park at the Estuary sign. There is an observation tower from which you can see waterfowl and local flora. 9km from Fisherboy Park.
  • Golf at Rainbow's End
Rainbow's End Golf Course is Vancouver Island's newest privately-owned 9-hole golf course. Come and join us in North Island Paradise!
  • Guided Tours
There are a number of guided tours available in the area, including whale watching, bear watching, and sportsfishing. Please contact us for more information, or consider booking one of our all-inclusive packages.
  • Hike at Darymple Trail
Take a self-guided tour of giant old growth forest mixed with a variety of undergrowth and second growth fir and hemlock.
  • Kusam Klimb
If you're up to the challenge, consider joining us in June for the Annual Kusam Klimb, an endurance race that takes you to the top of Mt. H'Kusam's steep incline and then back down again. You'll wind your way through beautiful old growth forest where the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding snow-capped mountains will be your reward. Catch your breath, take it all in, and then make your way back down the mountain to the finish line!
  • Victorian Garden Gate Manor
Tour the garden and woodland trails at this forty-acre gardener's haven in the country. The cool woodland trails flourishing with trees over 80 years old make way for the magnificent height of the rock walls, where you will find them covered with a blanket of moss and cascading with ferns. There is an abundance of native plants in this B.C. rainforest. Weather permitting, tea and dessert can be served on the garden patio.
